My Story

Hi everyone! My name is Anya. Welcome to my online portfolio. Feel free to take a peek into my projects. I'm currently a freshman at the University of California, Los Angeles majoring in Computer Science and Linguistics. I hope to use my knowledge in software programming to creatively tackle some of real world's pressing problems, be it in food insecurity, human rights, healthcare, or preserving biodiversity. I believe that computer science plays a major role in creating a more equitable and sustainable world. I am inspired by entrepreneurs that have tackled CS for Good in their mission to solve hard problems. From being apart of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector of the Association for Computing Machinery at UCLA, I learned CS is much more than coding. From self-driving cars that can make our roads safe to data science techniques that can be used for predictive analytics, AI can make a positive impact in the world if we are cautious such that the good outweighs the bad. We must try to also learn the dangers AI poses.

I spend a lot of my spare time growing my own food and learning about sustainable food systems. I also actively volunteer as tech and infrastructure support for East Bay Sanctuary Covenant, which is an organization based in Berkeley, CA that protects, advocates and transforms the lives of low income immigrants and those fleeing violence and persecution.

Outside of class, I love playing basketball. In high school, I was the captain of the Girls Varsity Team. I was also recognized as the 2019-2020 Most Valuable Player and received the 2023 Coaches Award. I continue to play basketball at UCLA as I am apart of intramural sports.

Outside of my main academic interest, I am very eager to learn about topics like Sustainability and Ethnicity, Migration, Rights and Immigration Reforms. As far as sustainability is concerned my particular interest is in food and climate science and I am hoping to gain more knowledge and experience in sustainable food production and food systems by participating in green programs and clubs.

I definitely value different types of learning and exploring different courses with an open mind and I hope to use the tools and the knowledge gained in computer programming to solve hard problems in areas that interest me.
